Room 15 | Claudette Schreuders

About The Room

Claudette Schreuders creates carved and painted wooden figures that explore the complexities of African identity in post-apartheid society. Her work often transforms private stories into universal narratives, marked by honesty, humour, and emotional depth. Prints serve as lasting records of her sculptures, making her art more accessible to collectors. In 2004, she was commissioned to create life-size bronzes of South Africa?s Nobel Peace Prize Laureates for Cape Town?s Waterfront, and her lithograph series Crying in Public was recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
